The Association of Passenger Shipping Companies (SEEN) and the Panhellenic Union of Merchant Shipping Seamen (PENEN) announced an agreement on Wednesday to terminate the strike that impacted Greek-flagged vessels operating on the Greece-Italy route.
With the signing of the Collective Labor Agreement alongside the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO), and a prior agreement between SEEN and PNO dated June 4, 2025, aimed at enhancing crew arrangements on vessels in the Greece–Italy trade (as outlined in the SEEN president’s letter to the PNO Secretary-General), ship captains are now empowered to grant leave and temporarily release seafarers upon their requests. This will be recorded in the seaman’s book, allowing for their reemployment after the leave period.
Furthermore, a minimum quota of freight vehicles per ship has been established according to each vessel’s capacity, which is tied to the payment of loading and unloading allowances.
In the words of the announcement, “The agreement between PENEN, SEEN, Attica Group, and Grimaldi addresses various institutional, economic, and sector issues, enabling seafarers to return to their vessels with pride, dignity, and a strong sense of accomplishment.”
