The extreme temperatures experienced recently have begun to decline, but residual heat remains in the interior of mainland Greece. Thodoris Kolydas shared an update outlining key weather patterns expected until Sunday.
Strong winds will persist, reaching up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea, though a decrease in intensity is anticipated starting Sunday afternoon, added the former EMY director.
Additionally, a high risk of fire is noted today, particularly in central and southern Evia, Attikovoitia, the eastern and southern Peloponnese, the Cyclades, Crete, and the eastern Aegean.
Elevated Fire Risk Today in Seventeen Regions
A high fire risk (risk category 3) is projected for certain areas today (Thursday) based on the Fire Risk Forecast Map from the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, under the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).

Maximum Temperature Surpassed 37 °C on Wednesday – Gusts Reached 100 km/h
The temperature on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, remained high for this time of year, especially in southern Greece, with maximums locally exceeding 37 °C. Elafonissi, Chania reported the highest temperature at 37.4°C.
Stronger northerly winds were also noted in the Aegean and eastern mainland, with peak gusts reaching 103 km/h at the meteorological station in Paximada, Karystos.

A generally clear day is expected with sporadic showers and thunderstorms in the mountainous continental regions during midday and afternoon.
Temperatures are forecasted to range from 12 to 29-30 °C in Western Macedonia, 14 to 35 °C in the remaining parts of Macedonia and Thrace, 15 to 35 °C in Thessaly, 14 to 33-34 °C in Epirus, and 14 to 34-36 °C across the rest of the mainland. In the Ionian Islands, temperatures will range from 16 to 32-34 °C, while the Aegean islands and Crete can expect 17 to 34-36 °C.
In the Aegean, winds will blow from northern directions, reaching speeds of 5-6 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea, winds will generally blow northwest at 3-4 Beaufort.
In Attica, clear skies are expected, with winds from the north at 3-4 Beaufort, locally up to 5 Beaufort in eastern areas. Temperatures will be between 24 and 34-35 °C.
Thessaloniki will also see clear weather, with winds from various directions at 2-3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 24 to 34 °C.

Clear skies are expected, with occasional clouds and localized rain in the western, central, and northern mainland in the afternoon, and isolated thunderstorms expected in the mountains of Epirus, western Sterea, and western Peloponnese.
Winds will be from the north, reaching 3 to 5 Beaufort in the west, and up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.
Temperatures will slightly decrease, especially in the north, with highs reaching 31 to 34 °C in the Ionian Sea and most mainland areas, and around 29 to 31 °C on the Aegean islands and 34 °C on southern Crete and the southeastern Aegean.
Weather for Saturday, June 14
Mostly clear conditions are expected with a few clouds and localized rain likely in the mainland, especially in the west, during midday and afternoon.
Winds will blow from the north, reaching 3 to 4 Beaufort in the west and up to 6 Beaufort in the east, with peaks of up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.
Temperatures will continue to decrease slightly in the east.
Weather for Sunday, June 15
Generally clear skies with occasional clouds, increasing during the midday and afternoon hours, will be present throughout the mainland. Local rain showers are anticipated in the northern and western regions.
Winds in the west will be variable up to 4 Beaufort. In the east, winds will be from the north, reaching 4 to 6 Beaufort, with gusts of up to 7 Beaufort in the southeastern Aegean.
Temperatures are expected to drop further across the country.
