Meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopoulou has warned that Greece will face challenging weather conditions throughout the weekend, heightening the risk of wildfires.
“Explosive Mix” of Weather Elements
- Intense northern winds (Bοριάδες): Speeds reaching 6–7 Beaufort, with gusts hitting 8–9 in the eastern and southern Aegean.
- High temperatures: Particularly impacting western Greece, southern inland areas, Attica, and Lesvos.
- Severe drought: Extremely dry soil creates perfect conditions for fire outbreaks.
- These combined factors result in a high-risk situation through Sunday in fire-prone areas.

- Rest of Greece: Mostly clear with some clouds in the interior during the afternoon.

- Saturday, June 14: Partly cloudy with local showers. Slight cooling in eastern parts of the country.
- Sunday, June 15: Mostly clear, with some clouds inland and light rain. Winds continue to be strong.
The combination of heat, strong winds, and drought results in very high fire risk conditions across Greece, particularly in at-risk areas. Authorities are urging continued vigilance through Sunday, June 15.
