“We are delighted to announce that, after holding off on raising shipping ticket prices as pledged, today we have revealed new measures concerning speedboats, which will include price reductions of up to 32% for Greek families and groups of three or more,” stated Vassilis Kikilias from Spetses.
“This is crucial for us as it impacts the majority of our island destinations. It demonstrates our commitment to supporting the Greek family, our travelers, our island residents, and everyone with expectations for a robust tourist season this year, ultimately benefiting Greeks at all levels. We warmly welcome this development,” he added.
It’s important to note that, due to EU regulations mandating that all ships switch to “green” fuel, which comes at a higher cost, shipping companies had projected a 12%-15% increase in ticket prices starting May 1.
To mitigate these price hikes and alleviate the financial burden on travelers, the government has cut port fees by 50%. This effective measure has helped prevent those anticipated increases, leading to today’s announcement of ticket reductions of up to 32% for high-speed vessels already utilizing green fuel. These reductions apply to families and groups of three or more.
