The requirement to provide the payment account number (IBAN) in VAT returns will be eliminated for VAT declarations submitted starting from July 1, 2025, as per Decision A. 1077/2025 issued by the Governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), George Pitsilis. This adjustment is intended to expedite the processing of VAT refund requests.
Henceforth, declaring an IBAN in the AADE Registry—instead of in the VAT return—will be a mandatory step for submitting VAT returns that include a request for tax refunds. Once an IBAN is registered in the Registry during the initial refund request, it will not need to be re-registered for subsequent requests.
Steps to declare an IBAN:
- Via the digital platform myAADE (myaade.gov.gr) by navigating to:
Registry & Communication > IBAN Account Declaration - Using the myAADEapp mobile application, by selecting:
Contact Information > IBAN
Special considerations:
For those wishing to declare a bank account located outside Greece or SEPA countries (which includes 36 countries and regions, such as the EU member states, the UK, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Andorra, and Vatican City), they must:
- Check the relevant box in the VAT return.
- Declare the account through the “My Requests” section of the myAADE digital portal.
To aid refund beneficiaries, a specific request form has been established in the “My Requests” section under:
Revenue, refunds & write-offs, tax clearance > IBAN declaration for non-SEPA foreign accounts for money refunds.
Additionally, the option to declare a Greek or SEPA IBAN through “My Requests” is now removed, as these must be declared solely through:
- Registry & Communication on the myAADE portal, or
- The myAADEapp mobile app.
Moreover, this decision introduces modifications to the language used in VAT return forms in alignment with the new VAT Code (Law 5144/2024).
