Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, spoke in an interview with Open about summer shipping ticket prices, ongoing port projects in Greece, and the issue of illegal immigration.
“Currently, there is a 50% reduction in port fees across all ports in the country, which is reflected in lower ticket prices. This benefits conventional ships not only during peak times but also throughout the remainder of the year. Regarding high-speed vessels, announcements concerning discounts and package deals for Greek families are expected soon from bidders and companies,” he stated initially.
“It’s time for the bureaucrats in Brussels and self-proclaimed humanitarians to realize the seriousness of guarding European borders, including Greece’s. The Coast Guard remains vigilant, with its officers risking their lives. I urge these NGOs and so-called humanitarians who enjoy their comforts in chalets in Switzerland and Germany to recognize the dedicated efforts of our Coast Guard and security forces in protecting our maritime boundaries. We will not accept criticism from those whose policies have failed us,” Kikilias emphasized regarding the migration situation.
