Early this morning, Turkish authorities conducted the fifth wave of arrests as part of a crackdown on the incarcerated mayor of Constantinople, Ekrem Imamoglu, along with other mayors from the opposition party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP).
The Prosecutor’s Office of Constantinople issued arrest warrants for 47 local CHP officials. This includes five mayors from regional municipalities: three in Constantinople (BuYuktskmehje, Gaziosmanpasa, and Avtzilar) and two in Adana province (Sheyhan and Jehan). Additionally, a former CHP deputy has been apprehended.
Since the early hours of the morning, police have been executing the warrants, and by approximately 10:00 a.m., 30 individuals had been taken into custody.
In light of these events, the CHP committee in Constantinople is convening an extraordinary meeting.
