In a series of harsh remarks aimed at Russian President Vladimir Putin and New York Times journalist Peter Baker, U.S. President Donald Trump shared his views on the ongoing war in Ukraine.
On the Truth Social platform, Trump labeled the conflict in Ukraine as “lost from day one.”
He specifically noted, “With all this, there was no reason for Putin to be launching missiles into urban areas, cities, and towns recently,” suggesting that the Russian president might be reluctant to end the hostilities and proposing “banking measures” or “secondary sanctions” as alternatives.
“Too many people are dying!!!” Trump exclaimed, adding earlier in his post that he had no involvement in the conflict except for previously supplying Ukraine with Javelin missiles, unlike Obama, who provided them with blankets. He claimed, “This is Sleepy Joe Biden’s war, not mine.”
Trump and Zelensky Share ‘Constructive Discussion’
Notably, earlier that day, Trump had a “very constructive conversation” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of Pope Francis’s funeral at the Vatican.
According to White House Communications Director Stephen Cheung, Trump and Zelensky met privately and held a fruitful discussion.
Zelensky’s spokesperson revealed that the meeting lasted about 15 minutes, with plans for additional discussions following the ceremony.
On X, Zelensky described the encounter as positive, expressing hope for an unconditional ceasefire and peace, and noted its potential to lead to historic developments.
Trump also criticized the New York Times, singling out journalist Peter Baker as a “biased and talentless columnist” who followed editorial directives to assert that Ukraine should reclaim its territories, including Crimea. He questioned, “Why doesn’t this insignificant journalist mention that it was Obama who allowed Russia to steal Crimea from Ukraine without a shot being fired?”
Finally, he labeled the newspaper as “failed” earlier in his post.
