Donald Trump stood by his contentious choice to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles to manage protests against immigration arrests on Monday.
In a post on Truth Social, the former president stated, “If I hadn’t sent troops to Los Angeles over the past three nights, this once beautiful city would be in ruins right now, as 25,000 homes have been lost to fire due to an incompetent governor and mayor,” seemingly referencing the wildfires that affected the state earlier this year.
Along with the National Guard, CNN reported that 700 Marines are being dispatched to assist with the protests. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass criticized the federal government for deploying troops, asserting that the city is being treated as a “test case” for undermining local governance.
