On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will host a news conference with Elon Musk, highlighting the conclusion of the billionaire entrepreneur’s formal collaboration with the U.S. government.
The event is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET in the Oval Office, as Trump shared on the Truth Social platform.
“Today marks his official last day, but he’ll always be with us, supporting our efforts,” Trump remarked in a Truth Social post. “Elon is amazing!”
Following Musk’s announcement of completing his mission to cut government spending during Trump’s administration, the White House expressed its gratitude for his contributions.
“We appreciate his service and his introduction of DOGE (the name of his Commission on Government Efficiency), and our work to minimize waste, fraud, and abuse will persist,” White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt informed reporters.
Cabinet members from Trump’s administration will collaborate with staff from the Department of Government Efficiency across federal agencies to further these initiatives, the spokesperson noted.
Cabinet secretaries “are closely coordinating with Elon Musk and will continue their collaboration with DOGE civilian appointees in various departments,” the White House press secretary stated.
The spokesperson refrained from commenting on Musk’s departure, especially after the billionaire had criticized his ally, Donald Trump, earlier this week. Musk announced on Wednesday that he had completed his spending reduction mission after four months of groundbreaking exploration.
“As my term as a special government employee concludes, I want to express my gratitude to President Donald Trump for letting me tackle wasteful spending,” Musk stated on his social media platform, X.
“The ‘DOGE’ mission will be further improved in the future, aiming to become a staple in government operations,” added the chairman of Tesla, SpaceX, and Platform X.
