The Hellenic Police achieved a major victory against an organized antiquities trafficking operation, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals.
This group attempted to sell what they claimed was an authentic Picasso painting for 10 million euros, but the “buyer” was actually an undercover police officer participating in the sting.
During the investigation, a substantial collection of artworks, ancient coins, and various archaeological artifacts were discovered in the possession of those arrested. Initial assessments suggest that the alleged Picasso painting is a counterfeit.
The Hellenic Police are set to provide additional details about the operation later today.
