The advancement of the Kalamaria Metro extension is slated for completion by February 2026, as confirmed during a recent meeting between the political leaders of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, alongside the management teams from Hellenic Metro S.A. and Egnatia Odos S.A..
It was also shared that the concession for Egnatia Odos S.A., which already has a contractor in place, is expected to proceed by the end of 2025.
Following the meeting, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas expressed gratitude to Deputy Minister Konstantinos P. Gioulekas for their fruitful collaboration, highlighting the expectation that this partnership will continue.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachias remarked on the substantial improvement in the situation since the Metro’s operations began on November 30. He noted that prior to this, many were unsure of the project’s completion. Today, there is widespread optimism that the Kalamaria extension will become a reality, with citizens eager to incorporate it into their daily routines. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is unwavering in its commitment to achieve this goal by February 28, 2026.
Deputy Minister Gioulekas added that today’s discussion underscores the Government’s serious commitment to Thessaloniki’s infrastructure initiatives.
The meeting with Hellenic Metro’s management included Minister Christos Dimas, Deputy Minister of Transport Costas Kyranakis (participating online), Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia and Thrace) Costas Gioulekas, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tachias, the Secretaries General of Infrastructure and Transport, Dimitris Anagnopoulos and Despina Paliarouta, along with other key officials from Hellenic Metro and OSEΘ.
The subsequent meeting with Egnatia Odos was attended by the same group of ministers, alongside Egnatia Odos A.E.’s President George Konstantopoulos, CEO Konstantinos Koutsoukos, and other representatives from Planet S.A. and the Prime Minister’s Office in Thessaloniki.
