Minister of Development Takis Theodoricakos met with a delegation from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), headed by Chief Financial Officer Mildred Callear, along with representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Greece, led by Chief of Staff Maria Olson.
During their discussion, Minister Theodoricakos highlighted the significant role of the DFC in revitalizing the Elefsina Shipyards. He stated, “A robust and competitive shipbuilding sector is crucial for Greece. As one of the world’s top five naval powers, we greatly appreciate DFC’s active support in reviving this vital industry for our economy and national strategy.”
Mr. Theodoricakos mentioned that shipbuilding has been designated, through legislative action, as a strategic and emblematic investment for the nation. He particularly noted the ongoing investments in the region, specifically the ONEX-Thriassios partnership, saying: “We are establishing a significant transit hub and a modern logistics center, which will yield multiplier effects for the national economy, enhance goods transportation, and promote regional development in the Southeastern Mediterranean, while creating hundreds of new jobs,” he emphasized.
Furthermore, he expressed the Ministry of Development’s commitment to maintaining collaboration with the DFC and evaluating any new investment proposals that strengthen the strategic partnership between Greece and the United States.
DFC’s Chief Financial Officer, Mildred Callear, characterized the investment from the U.S. state development bank in Greece as a “true success,” mentioning that it is the first of many potential projects in the country, and she conveyed strong interest in pursuing additional investments.
