The two children who fell into the Arachthos River in Arta on Wednesday (June 11) have been pronounced brain dead.
The parents of 14-year-old Spyros, who leapt into the river to rescue his drowning friend, have chosen to donate their son’s organs.
At the site of the drowning, friends have been leaving flowers. The migrant who jumped into the water to save the children was also present.
A note left by their friends at the tragedy site reads, “We will remember you forever. You left like heroes.”

It has been noted that the two children were submerged for 20 minutes, and CPR was not administered until about 30 minutes later at the Arta hospital, where doctors made extensive efforts to resuscitate them.
They were subsequently transferred to a hospital in Rio, where they were treated in the ICU under critical conditions. Sadly, approximately two days after the accident, despite the doctors’ incredible efforts, the children have been declared brain dead.
