An incident took place at the port of Igoumenitsa when a ship traveling from Lefkimmi, Corfu, encountered a malfunction just before docking. The captain was attempting to operate the catapult to align the ship with the dock when it unexpectedly failed, under circumstances that are still unclear.
As reported by voria.gr, the ship was located a short distance from the dock, prompting the captain to halt the mooring process. Following consultations with the port authority, assistance from the fire brigade was requested for the safe disembarkation of passengers.
Upon the vessel reaching the dock, some passengers managed to disembark from the side rails, while others were lowered using the basket from the Fire Department’s stair truck.
A crane and divers were swiftly dispatched to the scene to ensure the safety of all passengers and to evaluate the ship’s condition.
