ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group made a notable impact at the DEFEA 2025 exhibition, showcasing its strategic vision.
Panos Xenokostas, the chairman and CEO, was a key speaker at the seminar titled “National Ship: It Can Become a Reality!”
Xenokostas emphasized the ONEX Group’s readiness, in partnership with Skaramangas Shipyards, to build national warships featuring 70% Greek industrial participation aimed at boosting the country’s defense capabilities.
He highlighted the necessity of establishing a modern shipbuilding entity with the expertise and infrastructure required to meet international standards. He also unveiled a plan to upgrade the shipyards, enabling them to service vessels up to 200,000 tons by 2026.
Furthermore, he articulated a strategic goal of transitioning Greece from being merely a buyer to an equal partner in the shipbuilding sector. This includes fostering transnational defense collaborations that leverage domestic capabilities, enabling the co-development and promotion of Greek vessels in global markets.
On May 8, a cooperation memorandum was signed between the Association of Hellenic Shipyards and the Association of Hellenic Aerospace, Defense and Security Companies (EELEAA).
Xenokostas, also the President of the Hellenic Shipyards Association, deemed the agreement as the initiation of a new national strategy focused on technological self-sufficiency, industrial revitalization, and the international outreach of the Greek defense and shipbuilding industry.
The ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group pavilion was inaugurated on May 6, showcasing the Group’s innovative technologies.
Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos graced the event, officially inaugurating the pavilion alongside Panos Xenokostas, the ONEX Group’s CEO and Chairman of the Board of the Association of Hellenic Shipyards.
