Christos Rokofyllos, a former minister of PASOK, has passed away at the age of 94. The long-serving Member of Parliament for Aetolia-Acarnania, he was remembered by his son, Konstantinos Rokofyllos, who shared the news on social media: “He left us peacefully today, after a rich, fascinating, and creative life, upheld with dignity. Farewell, Dad, safe travels.”
About Christos Rokofyllos
Born in 1931 in Amfilochia, Christos Rokofyllos graduated with distinction from the Law School of the University of Athens and pursued further studies in Paris, earning a PhD in Law from Paris II – Sorbonne University, recognized with a monetary award from CNRS for his dissertation publication.
Rokofyllos practiced law in Athens and served as a lecturer at the University of Athens. During the political crisis of 1965, he was involved in the “Alexandros Papanastasiou” Group, which transitioned into the resistance organization Democratic Defense after the military coup in April 1967.
Following the fall of the dictatorship, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Democratic Defense and played a significant role in its merger with PASOK. He first became an MP for Aetolia-Acarnania in 1977 and served uninterruptedly in Parliament from 1985 to 1996, also representing PASOK in Parliament after the 1993 elections.
From October 1981 to July 1982, he held the position of Governor of the Agricultural Bank of Greece, and served as Greek Ambassador to France from 1982 to 1987, where he was also accredited to UNESCO and the Holy See in the Vatican.
He subsequently served as Deputy Minister of Industry (1994–1995) under Kostas Simitis and as Deputy Foreign Minister (1999–2000) under George Papandreou, but was not re-elected in the April 2000 elections.
