The Supreme Special Court has issued a ruling with immediate political implications, canceling the election of three Spartan MPs—Vassilis Stigas, Petros Dimitriadis, and Alexandros Zervea—after accepting appeals lodged against them.
This marks the second significant intervention by a Greek court in the country’s parliamentary structure since the post-junta era, and it will now result in a national assembly of only 297 members, as there are no provisions for replacing the removed deputies.
The Electoral Court justified its decision by claiming that the election of these three individuals was conducted through “misleading the electorate,” asserting that the party’s concealed leader was Ilias Kasidiaris, who has been convicted for involvement in a “criminal organization.”
