Simeon Palios, a leading figure in the Greek shipping industry, delivered impactful remarks regarding the future of Greek shipping during his address at the Propeller Club of Piraeus.
The founder of the Diana shipping group, Palios was honored during “Members’ Day” and designated as an honorary member of the Club, joined by his daughter Semiramis Paliou, her husband Aristides Efstathiou, and close friend Captain Panagiotis Tsakos.
He issued a heartfelt call to young individuals drifting away from maritime careers, emphasizing the urgent need to restore the social value and appeal of the shipping profession.
Palios also expressed optimism that Greece’s current 20% share in global shipping could rise to 25% if shipowners capitalize on the right opportunities.
“Shipping has the potential to serve as a bridge for development in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and biomedical research,” he stressed, encouraging scientists in the diaspora to return to Greece.
