The upcoming third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine will focus significantly on achieving a sustainable ceasefire, with a meeting anticipated in late June. This insight was shared by Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), during a broadcast on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
“Achieving a sustainable ceasefire will be a primary agenda item in the third round of negotiations. It will likely take place in Istanbul at the month’s end,” Slutsky stated.
He mentioned that Russia had proposed two conditions for the ceasefire. “The first option offers a quick resolution: the withdrawal of Ukrainian armed forces from four regions recognized as part of the Russian Federation. The second option is more comprehensive: it entails an end to mobilization in Ukraine, halting Western arms supplies, establishing a bilateral monitoring center, and lifting martial law,” he explained.
According to Slutsky, this flexibility is “essential for reaching a compromise.”
