The Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) has shared the details regarding the Greece Women’s National Team’s preparation for the upcoming EuroBasket 2025 tournament, set to take place at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) from June 18 to June 29. The team will hold its initial meeting on Tuesday, May 6, at the Ergani Indoor Hall, followed by training sessions in Ioannina from May 19 to May 28.
In a historic move, the Greek national team will feature its first naturalized player, Robin Parks, who is in the process of obtaining Greek citizenship. The 32-year-old forward is versatile, capable of playing as a shooting guard, small forward, or power forward. Her presence will enhance the roster’s flexibility, greatly benefiting head coach Petros Prekas. Reports from Gazzetta indicate that Parks will join Athenakos for the next season.
National Team and Athenakos Preparation
According to Gazzetta, coordinated efforts by the federation mean that the American player could receive her passport from the Greek Consulate in New York as early as today, Wednesday, May 14. Once she becomes a Greek citizen, Parks will bolster Athenakos, which reached the finals of the Women’s A1 League this season.
Parks previously played with Famila Schio two years ago under the guidance of esteemed coaches Giorgos Dikaioulakos and Petros Prekas, both of whom achieved success this year in Italy. During her last season with Schio, she recorded averages of 10.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in the EuroLeague Women.
Her addition offers fresh solutions for the national team at this significant tournament, particularly in light of the absence of key players Elena Tsineke and Anna-Niki Stamolamprou, who have been critical in previous matches.
Career and WNBA Experience
Parks enjoyed a successful four-year tenure at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), posting impressive averages of 18.7 and 21.6 points in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, respectively. In the 2014-15 season, she played for Gran Canaria in Spain, averaging 18.2 points and 4.6 rebounds before continuing her career with Prometei, Sant Adrià, Valencia, and Zaragoza.
She pursued her WNBA aspirations with the Chicago Sky in the 2023-24 season, where she averaged 4 points and 1.6 rebounds over 40 games in the regular season, and 2.5 points and 2 rebounds in the playoffs.
During the most recent season, she played for Elmak Konut, helping the team to a fourth-place finish in Turkey.
In Summary
The first phase of EuroBasket Women 2025 will occur from June 18 to June 22 across Piraeus, Brno, Bologna, and Hamburg, while the final phase will be hosted at SEF.
