The Ministry of Health has made its draft law available on the public online consultation platform. This proposal includes a ban on the sale, supply, and disposal of tobacco and alcohol products to minors by any means.
The bill is titled: “Protection of Minors from Tobacco and Alcohol Products – Regulations on Non-Tobacco Products – Digital Register for Monitoring Tobacco, Alcohol, and Other Non-Tobacco Products and Additional Provisions.”
The main highlights of the draft law, aside from the sales ban, are:
– the requirement for sellers to verify the identity of adults at all points of sale,
– the mandatory notification to authorities (police or coastguard) for private events in entertainment venues and bars involving minors, through a dedicated electronic platform,
– the implementation of systematic administrative penalties for violations, and
– the introduction of criminal penalties for the sale of tobacco and alcohol to and from minors, as well as for their presence, involvement, and employment in entertainment venues and bars.
The consultation period will be open until 9 AM on June 16.
