PPC Group Enhances Its Leadership in Energy Transition in Southeastern Europe
PPC Group is furthering its commitment to the energy transition in Southeastern Europe by expanding its green initiatives through an agreement for the completion and commissioning of an 88 MW solar park currently under construction in the Karlovo region of central Bulgaria.
This project is being developed by Chint Green Energy, a subsidiary of Chint Group, which owns Astronergy, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of photovoltaic panels. The solar park is expected to be handed over to PPC Group following its construction and commissioning, slated for the first quarter of 2026.
Positioned in a region with optimal sunshine exposure, the site is conveniently located near one of Bulgaria’s primary load centers in Plovdiv and is just 150 kilometers from Sofia, enhancing accessibility and infrastructure support.
The construction will incorporate 18,500 bifacial panels from Astronergy, 264 string inverters, and 12 HV/MV generation substations. The support system for these photovoltaic panels includes single-axis trackers designed for active panel orientation and integrated backtracking algorithms to maximize productivity.
Annual Production of 140 GWh to Support 23,500 Households
The expected annual energy output from this project is 140 GWh, sufficient to meet the needs of over 23,500 households. Additionally, the operation of this facility is anticipated to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 70,000 tons each year. “PPC Group is making steady progress in expanding its portfolio in Southeastern Europe, as outlined in our strategic plan for 2025 – 2027. Following the initiation of a 165 MW photovoltaic plant in the Stara Zagora region, we are reinforcing our presence in Bulgaria through this significant project, aligning with our vision for a sustainable transition to green energy across Greece and Southeast Europe,” stated PPC Vice President Konstantinos Mavros.
Renewable Energy Sources (RES) Portfolio
Just two months ago, PPC Group began construction on a 165 MWp photovoltaic power plant in Stara Zagora, alongside a nearby energy storage station with a nominal power of 25 MW and an installed capacity of 55 MWh. Additionally, the group operates an 18 MW wind farm in Northern Bulgaria.
PPC Group currently boasts a total portfolio of RES projects with an installed capacity of 6.2 GW across Greece, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria. The group’s investment plan aims to elevate its RES capacity to 11.8 GW by 2027.
