This year, the port of Corfu has made significant strides in the cruise industry, as reported by the Corfu Port Authority, positioning the island as a premier destination in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In the first four months of the year, there were 64 cruise ship arrivals, up from 36 in 2024. This resulted in 89,000 passengers landing on the island, reflecting an impressive growth of over 79%. The cruise season began in January, underscoring the port’s ongoing operations.
From May to December, an additional 406 arrivals and 745,000 passengers are anticipated, with 111 expected between October and December.
“Corfu stands as the nation’s key link to the West”
Spyros Zervopoulos, CEO of the Greek Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized Corfu’s growing importance as Greece’s gateway to the West, which is significantly enhancing economic progress.
“The remarkable commencement of cruise activities at Corfu’s port in the early months of 2025 clearly indicates our port’s increasing international reputation. Corfu is indeed Greece’s vital gateway to the West. Through strategic partnerships, infrastructure improvements, and a focus on passenger experience, we are bolstering Corfu’s role as a cornerstone of development and tourism for the region, thereby strengthening its economy,” he stated.
The total economic benefit from cruise activities for the local economy is projected to exceed 190 million euros, providing substantial support to the island’s businesses and community.
