A new mechanism is set to ensure that subsidies are paid directly to beneficiaries, focusing on improved service for farmers, as stated by Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis. This initiative will see the OPEKEPE organization integrated into AADE.
The decision to involve AADE stems from its commendable achievements in enhancing the tax system over recent years, the minister noted.
In his statement, the finance minister remarked:
“Today, I presented to the Cabinet the plan for the gradual integration of OPEKEPE into the Independent Public Revenue Authority. Our goal is to establish a mechanism for direct subsidy payments to beneficiaries, prioritizing improved service for farmers.
To achieve this, we must enhance payment processes, introduce new digital services, bolster internal controls, increase physical inspections, and ensure interoperability and standardization of procedures.
The choice of AADE is based on its outstanding performance in modernizing our tax system. Utilizing this expertise, the authority is expected to develop a transparent, efficient, and modern system for agricultural subsidy payments.
