Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), a subsidiary of Cosco Shipping Ports Limited, is celebrating 15 years of impactful presence in Piraeus.
The company has positioned itself as a cornerstone of the Greek maritime and port sector, consistently investing in infrastructure, innovation, and sustainable development. It stands as one of the largest employers in the Balkans, with a workforce exceeding 2,500 individuals, including its subcontractors.
With a long-term commitment to Sustainable Development, PCT has implemented a robust Environmental and Social Responsibility strategy. Investments surpassing 600 million euros have funded strategic projects, including the construction and operation of Pier III, the integration of the station with the national and Balkan railway network, and the installation of advanced crane bridges, which have transformed Piraeus into a premier transit hub in Europe and the Mediterranean.
The handling capacity of the Piraeus Container Terminal has expanded from 1.5 million to 6.2 million TEUs, more than doubling the annual container volume and securing the port’s position among the top five in Europe, as well as its leadership in the Mediterranean region.
From 2009 to 2024, the fiscal contribution (including concession fees, taxes, and social security payments) will amount to 1.03 billion euros. Additionally, for the 2024-2025 period, PCT has signed contracts worth 275 million euros with over 600 suppliers, primarily from the local community.
PCT’s achievements have been formally recognized with awards such as the “Greek Business Champion,” “Diamonds of the Greek Economy,” and “True Leaders Awards.”
With a focus on social responsibility, education, and environmental stewardship, the company has implemented an impressive support program for educational and charitable institutions, nonprofit organizations, and vulnerable communities. Since 2010, it has donated to charitable initiatives, assisting over 5,000 families with food packages.
Capt. Wang Jihang, Managing Director of PCT, remarked: “Achieving 15 years of continuous growth is a proud milestone for our team. Since 2009, we have been dedicated to establishing Piraeus as one of Europe’s and the Mediterranean’s largest ports, and a key player on the world stage.
As we reflect on the development of the port, we see a path filled with significant achievements and valuable contributions to the Greek economy and society, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team.
With an ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation, we will continue to invest responsibly, honoring our commitments to the environment, society, and our partners.
The future of Piraeus is promising, and we are proud to play an active role in this journey.”
