Passenger traffic at the 24 airports under the management of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) rose by 14% in the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.
Statistics indicate that the combined total of passengers (including both arrivals and departures for international and domestic flights) at airports such as Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, and Sitia reached 1,415,331 in January-April 2025, a significant increase from 1,241,640 in 2024.
Kazantzakis Airport: April Sees 22% Growth
Specifically, the main airport in Heraklion, Crete, accommodated 595,306 passengers in April, representing a 22.2% rise from the previous year, which saw 487,303 passengers for the same month.
The largest increases in passenger traffic at HCAA-managed airports in April 2025, compared to the prior year, were observed at Kastelorizo Airport (+68.1%) and Kastoria Airport (+58.9%).
39 Airports in Total
Additionally, a 9.2% growth in passenger traffic was noted across all commercial airports in the country (39 airports in total: 24 managed by CAA, 14 by Fraport Greece, and Athens International Airport). The aggregate passenger total for January-April 2025 stood at 13,804,391, up from 12,645,721 during the same timeframe in 2024.
In terms of aircraft arrivals and departures at all 39 airports throughout the first four months of 2025, there was a 6.5% increase compared to 2024.
In total, there were 116,707 flights conducted from January to April 2025, compared to 109,603 in the same period of 2024.
