In her nearly decade-old book, “And Suddenly Mom,” Nia Vardalos opened up about her journey of adopting her daughter, Ilaria. The actress and author discussed her decision to publicly share her motherhood experiences, emphasizing that this was the first time she expressed something so personal—revealing an intimate part of her life that she had kept private, hoping her story could resonate with and aid others.
During a candid interview on the show “Happy Day” that aired on Friday, April 25, she remarked, “This was the first time I revealed something so deeply personal, a side of me I was hesitant to show. I believed it was important to share my experience, as it might help others who are going through similar situations.”
Vardalos also spoke about her close relationship with her daughter, highlighting the frequent trips they take to Greece. She mentioned being intentional about keeping Ilaria out of the spotlight so that she can enjoy a more typical childhood. She shared, “We have a wonderful bond, and we often visit Greece. She speaks Greek, albeit with my accent, but we’ll see how it goes. I’ve kept her away from my career; she doesn’t attend my premieres very often. I think it’s beneficial for her to experience a normal life.”
