A state-of-the-art Beechcraft King Air 360C aircraft dedicated to air ambulance services has officially joined the country’s fleet.
The handover ceremony, marking a generous donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to the Greek State, took place on Monday afternoon at the Elefsina Air Base, 112th Battle Wing, with the Health Ministry’s leadership in attendance. This new aircraft is designed to transport two critically ill patients simultaneously, including newborns, thanks to its incubator and capability for concurrent evacuations.
Health Minister Adonis Georgiades expressed gratitude to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for their donation, highlighting that the foundation expedited the aircraft’s purchase just nine days after the Health Ministry’s request. “This model is an improvement over the previous two, featuring an incubator and a toilet. A toilet is essential, not just a luxury; it allows the aircraft to travel beyond our borders to transport patients to neighboring countries. This capability saves lives and significantly enhances health services provided by the Ministry of Health and the EKAB,” said Georgiades.
It was noted that the new aircraft retains the same fundamental specifications as its two predecessors, with the addition of a toilet and the ability to remove one stretcher for extended international flights before refueling. One of its key roles will also involve transporting patients for transplants both domestically and internationally.
