Over 4.1 million tourists visited the country between January and April, marking a 5.8% rise compared to the same period in 2024. Tourist arrivals from the US surged by approximately 27%.
Data from the Bank of Greece reveals that airport travel rose by 10.8%, although travel through border stations declined by 3.9%. During this period, arrivals from EU-27 countries totaled 2.04 million, a drop of 5.4% from 2024, while arrivals from other nations increased by 19.7%, reaching 2 million. Travel from euro area countries grew by 3.2%, whereas travel from EU-27 states outside the euro area saw a decline of 27.9%.
Specifically, arrivals from Germany increased by 3.6%, bringing the total to 475.5 thousand, while arrivals from France decreased by 22.6% to 164.6 thousand. Travel from Italy also dropped by 11.0%, totaling 198.3 thousand. Concerning non-EU-27 countries, travel from the United Kingdom rose by 41.5% to 294.6 thousand, and from the United States increased by 26.9% to 339.5 thousand. Lastly, arrivals from Russia grew to 2.8 thousand.
The surge in tourist traffic led to a 10.6% increase in tourism revenues compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 2.1 billion euros. This growth is largely attributed to a 26.0% rise in receipts from non-EU residents, reaching 1 billion euros, while receipts from EU-27 residents declined by 1.8% to 1.025 billion euros. More specifically, income from euro area residents fell by 5.7% to 861.5 million euros, while receipts from EU-27 residents outside the eurozone increased by 25.4% to 164.1 million euros.
In detail, receipts from Germany rose by 0.8% to €297.1 million, while those from France dropped by 25.0% to €110.2 million. Receipts from Italy also decreased by 6.6%, totaling €110.3 million. Among other countries, receipts from the United Kingdom climbed by 23.4% to €167.8 million, and receipts from the United States increased by 36.8% to €325.5 million. Finally, receipts from Russia grew to €2.5 million.
