Mitsotakis to visit Odesa for the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit – Communication with Zelenskyy

Today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

They reviewed the current situation in Ukraine. The Prime Minister accepted an invitation from Mr. Zelenskyy to attend the Ukraine–Southeast European Countries Summit, which will be held in Odesa.

It’s important to note that the inaugural high-level meeting was initiated by Greece in Athens in August 2023.

I had a productive conversation with Greek Prime Minister @kmitsotakis. We focused on intensifying pressure on Russia and continuing our support for Ukraine.

In his message regarding the call with the Greek Prime Minister, President Zelenskyy stated:

“I had a constructive discussion with the Prime Minister of Greece. We talked about enhancing pressure on Russia and maintaining support for Ukraine. I briefed him on my recent engagements with European partners and President Trump. Significant diplomatic activity is taking place. We need strong pressure and further sanctions against Russia. It is important to remember that the war persists solely due to Russia’s reluctance to seek peace.

I expressed my gratitude to Kyriakos and the European Union for the 17th package of sanctions. We must cut off Moscow’s resources that finance violence. Greece aligns with our stance and will aid in ramping up pressure. Supporting Ukraine, our military, domestic defense, and boosting air defense remains crucial.

We are thankful for Greece’s ongoing commitment to safeguard lives. I invited Prime Minister Mitsotakis to the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit, which he agreed to attend. Thank you.”
