During a meeting with the 13 regional governors today, Friday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis followed up on their previous discussion from February, where they introduced the project oversight mechanism.
The Prime Minister emphasized that “this collaboration needs to be more systematic and intensified by the end of the year.”
He highlighted that “our actions are evolving to address new needs, such as the issue of settlement expansion. The government is committed to finding a legal, stable, and functional solution.”
Mitsotakis urged the regional leaders “to articulate their specific regional issues and propose realistic strategies for effective actions, especially with the upcoming review of the ESPA and the European budget for 2027-2034.”
He noted that “Greece will assume the EU Presidency in the second half of 2027, marking a critical moment for the future of European financial instruments.”
In response, the South Aegean regional governor and president of the Union of Greek Regions (ENPE), Giorgos Hadjimarkos, stated, “We aspire to create a Greece with enhanced potential through innovative reforms that break away from inertia and populist mindsets, challenging stereotypes and myths. We are committed to advancing Greece’s progress.”
