On Sunday morning, June 22, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis shared his usual recap on Facebook.
In light of escalating tensions in the Middle East, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for restraint and international cooperation in his update. He stressed that Europe must step up, with important discussions planned for the upcoming NATO Summit and the European Council.
A key focus of his message was the OPEKEPE (Greek Payment and Control Agency for Guidance and Guarantee Community Aid) issue. He provided a thorough examination of both the European and national aspects of agricultural subsidies, underscoring the government’s commitment to implementing significant institutional reforms. “We cannot allow a small group of opportunists to damage the reputation of the entire agricultural community,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister also highlighted various initiatives, including the repatriation of Greeks from abroad, decreasing unemployment rates, the “Career Days” programs, job opportunities for individuals with disabilities, advancements in hospital on-call systems through “bracelet” technology, home medical delivery services, and the positive reception of the new Personal Pediatrician program. He mentioned operations conducted by the Hellenic Police, infrastructure projects in Thessaloniki, the illumination of historic castles, and the reopening of the Archaeological Museum of Thera.
In his closing remarks, he reiterated the need for stricter inspections of the fuel market due to international instability, stating that those engaged in fraudulent activities involving European funds would be mandated to repay the amounts — and could face criminal charges as well.
