Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis recently announced that tenants will receive a full month’s rent reimbursed every November starting this year, following the release of Greece’s fiscal performance data by ELSTAT and Eurostat.
In a social media message today, Prime Minister Mitsotakis stated: “If you pay rent, you’ll want to watch this video! For the first time, we’ve decided to implement something straightforward yet significant. The State will pay one month’s rent on your behalf each year. We’re not just handing out allowances; we’re giving back the benefits of economic growth through lasting measures. We’re reallocating the surplus from growth and efforts to combat tax evasion where it belongs—back to you. This new initiative will provide over 900,000 tenants with an annual return equivalent to one month’s rent, paid each November, covering primary residences and student housing, with maximum amounts of €900 and €800, respectively. Additionally, if you have two children in school, you will receive the benefit for both.
This initiative complements our existing housing policies. As the economy improves, citizens’ incomes must also rise. As our country progresses, it’s essential for citizens—especially the youth—to feel the impact. This is our commitment, and we will continue taking action. I understand the challenges faced by renters, particularly our young people.”
