On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met privately with Archbishop Ieronymos at the Prime Minister’s residence on Lycabettus Hill, away from public scrutiny.
Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis confirmed the meeting during an interview with Alpha 98.9. Reports indicate that the Archbishop arrived alone, without any aides, and shared a meal with the Prime Minister and his wife.
They reportedly discussed recent developments regarding the Monastery of Saint Catherine of Sinai, a topic the Archbishop had recently highlighted. He expressed concerns about the potential loss of the monastery’s assets and ongoing questions about its ownership from the Egyptian side.
The private discussion continued for a considerable time, with the Archbishop leaving the Prime Minister’s residence late at night.
