Germany’s commitment to “continue and expand” military assistance to Ukraine was confirmed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz during his meeting today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Chancellery.
Merz indicated that an agreement on long-range weapon systems produced in Ukraine is expected to be finalized today by the defense ministers of both nations.
The German chancellor stated that these weapons would enable the Ukrainian armed forces to target military locations within Russian territory without limitations.
When asked specifically about the Taurus missiles, the chancellor emphasized Berlin’s intention to provide Ukraine with all necessary capabilities to defend itself against Russian aggression. However, he noted that “these issues will not be discussed publicly” and mentioned that discussions between Germany and Ukraine will be intensified in the near future.
