Pavlos Marinakis, the government spokesman, highlighted the public’s demand for broader reforms, including the removal of job security for public servants, as reported in the recent Marc poll for Proto Thema, during a press briefing with political editors on Monday afternoon.
“Our government recognizes that change is necessary. The so-called ‘silent majority’ has grown weary of their lives being overshadowed by the loud demands of a small minority. The nation requires bold reforms—like the introduction of non-state universities alongside the enhancement of public ones, postal voting, and measures to tackle tax evasion. We advocate for genuine evaluation, unlike the SYRIZA-era where 97% of public employees were deemed ‘excellent’, and we believe evaluations should have real consequences,” Mr. Marinakis stated.
He continued, “Historically, New Democracy has held the view that everyone, including public servants, should undergo evaluation that carries consequences. The specifics of those consequences, including the potential removal of job security in the public sector, will be addressed during the constitutional revision process at the appropriate time.”
“Such changes require wider parliamentary support. It’s encouraging to see that, after over a decade of crisis and challenges to longstanding norms, society is demanding change. We must approach this thoughtfully, always keeping the middle class in mind, which seeks meaningful improvements to their daily lives,” Marinakis concluded.
