Alimia Group, led by Athanasios Laskaridis, is now experiencing the benefits of its extensive shipbuilding initiative, which includes advanced bulk carriers and tankers.
Recently, Laskaridis Maritime S.A., the Greek shipping company managing the group’s bulk carriers, celebrated a naming ceremony at the Hengli Shipbuilding shipyards in Dalian, China, for three new bulk carriers.
The vessels, named “M/V Ithaki I”, “M/V Elatos”, and “M/V Punta del Chileno”, represent the first instance of a trio of ships being named at this shipyard. Each bulk carrier boasts a deadweight tonnage of 82,000 DWT and underscores the collaboration between Laskaridis Maritime S.A. and the Alimia Group.
Notably, the ship ITHAKI I was delivered 24 days ahead of schedule.
During the ceremony, Alimia Group’s president, Athanasios K. Laskaridis, highlighted the significance of the triple naming. The strong turnout from representatives of the Greek company, classification societies, financial partners, and Hengli’s leadership underscored the increasing dominance of China in premium shipbuilding for global clients.
Founded in 2021, the company has quickly grown to manage 16 ultra-modern dry bulk carriers.
Additionally, it anticipates taking delivery of another kamsarmax from Hengli Shipbuilding this year, along with eight more kamsarmaxes next year.
Under the ownership of Athanasios Laskaridis, Alimia Shipping, part of the Alimia Group, currently operates a fleet of 34 vessels, 31 of which are either new or under construction. The fleet comprises three capesize ships, 180,000 tons, 18 kamsarmaxes, and seven ultramaxes.
Until last year, the group also operated an LR2-type tanker. However, in the summer of 2024, it secured an agreement with Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu shipyard to build five additional MR2-type tankers.
With one of the most modern fleets globally, the company has its ships constructed at leading shipyards in China and South Korea.
