Former Newcastle star Jonas Gutierrez delighted onlookers in the city center by performing guitar and singing near Grey’s Monument. The 41-year-old Argentine, who stepped away from football in 2021, shared his deep affection for both the city and the club, calling the experience “a dream come true.”

From the Pitch to the Stage
Gutierrez, who played for Newcastle from 2008 to 2015 after joining from Mallorca, left his mark wearing the “Magpies” jersey. He made 205 appearances and scored 12 goals, with his most significant goal coming in his final match for the club in 2015. That decisive goal against West Ham ensured Newcastle’s survival in the Premier League, securing his legacy among fans.
His journey, however, faced challenges. In 2012, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery to remove a testicle. Despite this setback, Gutierrez returned with renewed strength, inspiring many with his determination and zeal.
“My City, My Home”
This heartfelt display ignited excitement among fans, who flooded the comments with messages of support. One fan remarked, “Once a Geordie, always a Geordie,” while another reminisced: “Almost 10 years have passed since that goal against West Ham. We will never forget.” A third commented, “It’s not every day you see a Newcastle legend playing guitar on the street.”
Gutierrez’s Legacy
Having represented the Argentina national team 22 times between 2007 and 2011, Gutierrez continued his career with clubs like Deportivo La Coruña, Independiente, Banfield, and Málaga after his time at Newcastle.
