Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a businessman’s son, including trap artist Ivan Greko. These suspects possess extensive criminal histories and face various felony and misdemeanor charges.
As reported by SKAI, the four men have prior encounters with law enforcement, and some are believed to belong to an extortion gang operating in Vari. Authorities have previously flagged Ivan Greko for threats, violations of military law, and traffic offenses.
The 33-year-old suspect was arrested in 2014 on charges of intentional homicide and attempted murder involving two brothers in Agios Dimitrios. He managed to escape from prison during a furlough and, in 2017, stole a police vehicle with an officer still inside. He is also thought to be linked to an individual who recently survived an attempted murder in Ano Liosia.
The 25-year-old has a criminal record that includes charges of grievous bodily harm, disturbing the peace, and making threats. The 23-year-old has faced charges for assaulting public officials, embezzlement, robbery, and escape.
Tortured with a Knife and Screwdriver
The incident began on the morning of May 6 in Hymettus, where three of the attackers assaulted the businessman’s son, inflicting injuries with a sharp object on his lower limbs. They threatened his life during the abduction.
After forcing him into a car, they demanded €25,000 in cash along with a BMW motorcycle valued at at least €25,000, while continuing to beat him with their hands and sharp implements.
The group traveled to the coastal area of Saronida, where a fourth accomplice joined them on a motorcycle. The threats intensified, including the use of a firearm, and continued at a beach in the vicinity. According to ERT, throughout their journey from Hymettus to Saronida, the kidnappers tortured the 24-year-old victim with a knife and screwdriver.
The ordeal persisted for five hours, during which the victim was compelled to contact friends for the ransom money.
At one point, the attackers attempted to sever his fingers with wire cutters but were thwarted by the victim’s fierce resistance.
Eventually, they headed toward Glyfada to collect part of the ransom. During that trip, the 24-year-old managed to escape and alert a friend.
