A paraglider in China endured a near-fatal experience when strong winds propelled him to an altitude of 8,000 meters, exposing him to sub-zero temperatures and dangerously low oxygen levels.
A video shared on social media shows Liu Ge losing control of his wing just minutes after taking off from 3,000 meters in the Qilian Mountains.
Due to the fierce winds, he found himself above the clouds, struggling to maintain control while becoming covered in ice.
Liu Ge was paragliding over the Qilian Mountains in northern China when he lost control.
“I could feel the oxygen levels dropping, and my hands were freezing, but I kept in contact with my team,” he told the Global Times.
He mentioned that at such heights, temperatures can plummet to -40°C, with oxygen levels reaching critically low points.
Fortunately, he remained conscious throughout the ordeal and was able to land safely a few minutes later, though he suffered frostbite and required hospitalization.
Following the video’s release, Chinese authorities initiated an investigation into Liu Ge’s flight, as preliminary reports suggest he lacked official permission.
