The High Council for Cooperation between Greece and Egypt convened in Athens, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, alongside Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tassos Hadjivassiliou, who oversees Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion.
Following the meeting, Mr. Hadjivassiliou, together with Minister of Development Takis Theodoricakos, held discussions with Dr. Rania Al-Masat, the Minister of Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Hassan el-Hatib, the Minister of Investment and International Trade.
These discussions highlighted the strong state of Greek-Egyptian relations. The parties talked about expanding trade, economic cooperation, and investments in key sectors, including shipping and tourism, as well as innovative areas like new technologies and green energy. A major topic was the Greece-Egypt Electricity Interconnection (GREGY Interconnector cable), which aims to enhance interconnectivity. The Deputy Foreign Minister also addressed Greek exports and reached an agreement with his counterparts to organize a business mission to Cairo in 2025.
Deputy Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tasos Hadjivassiliou, stated: “The High Cooperation Council meeting today, along with the signing of the Declaration of Strategic Partnership, solidifies our mutual commitment to enhanced collaboration. As the Prime Minister noted, ‘the two countries stand together to face the significant challenges in our region.’”
In our meeting with Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos, we engaged with Ministers Dr. Rania Al-Mashat and Hassan El Khatib to discuss the foundational strength of our economic and trade relations, as well as future cooperation opportunities. Egypt serves as a vital strategic partner for Greece in the broader region, and together we are working to create a stable framework for security, development, and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean.
