The 9th Naftemporiki Shipping Conference was inaugurated by Spyros Ktenas, the Group’s General Manager, who expressed confidence in the strategic significance of Greek shipping and its essential contribution to the national economy.
This year’s conference is particularly crucial, as it addresses pressing issues such as geopolitical conflicts, trade tensions, new maritime routes, environmental regulations, and taxation developments. Ktenas highlighted that shipping companies must adapt strategically to this evolving landscape.
McKinsey Report
A highlight of the conference was the presentation of McKinsey’s report on the onshore investment footprint of Greek shipowners. This moment was underscored by the Union of Greek Shipowners’ decision to unveil the report here, reflecting the strong trust and collaboration within the sector.
Ktenas noted that Greek shipping remains the largest worldwide, boasting a fleet of over 5,800 commercial vessels, and plays a vital role in ensuring global food and energy security.
He remarked, “It serves as a pillar of stability in the face of challenging and rapidly changing conditions,” adding that the sector injects significant investment capital into the nation, thereby making a substantial contribution to economic growth.
Two New Initiatives
Ktenas also unveiled two significant new initiatives:
- The expansion of Naftemporiki’s TV channel, which will now be broadcast on television screens throughout the Attica region, in addition to being available on the Cosmote and Nova platforms. This aims to improve public access to the contributions and impact of Greek shipping.
- The digitization of the newspaper’s historic archive—a significant project aimed at preserving and leveraging a century of national and maritime history. This endeavor is particularly valuable for students, researchers, and younger generations.
“Naftemporiki is committed to highlighting the crucial role of Greek shipping,” he concluded, warmly welcoming all conference attendees.
