Gérard Depardieu, 76, has been found guilty following his trial on charges of sexually assaulting two women during the production of Les Volets Verts (The Green Shutters) in 2021.
The iconic actor, regarded as one of the greatest stars of French cinema, was absent from the courtroom when the verdict was delivered. He was convicted of sexually assaulting a 54-year-old set designer and a 34-year-old assistant director during the filming in Paris in September 2021.
The accusations from both women involve multiple instances of inappropriate touching, both on set and in public spaces, which Depardieu has consistently denied.
He faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a €75,000 fine, although prosecutors are seeking a suspended sentence. The ruling was issued by a panel of judges, as is standard practice in France.
