On Thursday, June 5, Minister of Foreign Affairs Georgos Gerapetritis met with María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Cyprus.
This visit, which follows Holguín Cuéllar’s assumption of office on May 2, 2025, aimed to facilitate discussions in advance of the upcoming expanded informal meeting scheduled for July.
During the meeting, Mr. Gerapetritis reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to supporting the efforts of the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy regarding the Cyprus issue. He expressed Greece’s readiness to collaborate with the Republic of Cyprus to seek a comprehensive, just, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem, in line with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of sustaining the current positive momentum surrounding the Cyprus issue, emphasizing the need to continue the UN-led process to implement agreements from the informal enlarged Geneva meeting. He underscored that building trust is essential for resuming talks based on the previously agreed framework under UN auspices.
