Nine individuals sustained injuries during a Ryanair flight departing from Berlin to Milan.
The flight encountered severe turbulence caused by thunderstorms in southern Germany. Eyewitnesses reported to Bild that the turbulence was so extreme that passengers were lifted off their seats and hit the ceiling of the aircraft.
“I’ve never experienced such fear. At that moment, I honestly thought the plane would break apart or flip!” a passenger recounted in an interview with the German newspaper. Several passengers were reportedly unbuckled during the turbulence, while a mother and her baby were in the restroom.
Some passengers claimed that they received no timely warning to fasten their seatbelts, according to Bild. The challenging weather conditions necessitated an emergency landing at Memmingen Airport in southern Germany.
After landing, passengers remained on the aircraft for several hours. Emergency services were on standby to assist them, as the captain had called for medical help before the emergency landing.
The plane was carrying 179 passengers and six crew members. Among the injured, three were hospitalized, including a two-year-old child with bruises, a woman with a head injury, and a passenger suffering from back pain. Others received first aid at the airport, as reported by the police.
According to the Daily Mail, Ryanair has arranged a replacement flight for the affected passengers traveling to Milan and has issued an apology.
