The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Hakan Fidan, addressed the upcoming negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
The Turkish minister, who is facilitating the discussions, stated: “Turkey is pleased to welcome representatives from both countries in Istanbul. Ankara views it as crucial for Russia and Ukraine to heed the calls for peace from Trump and Erdogan. The delegations from Moscow and Kiev must choose between pursuing peace or prolonging the destructive conflict; these are the two paths available.”
“The first meeting between Russian and Ukrainian representatives in three years presents a valuable opportunity that should not be overlooked, as each day of conflict results in further casualties. The talks in Istanbul are vital in laying the groundwork for a potential meeting between the nations’ leaders. Ankara genuinely believes that this meeting can pave the way for peace if both sides approach it constructively,” the Turkish minister added.
In the meeting room at Dolmabahçe, there are 9 members of the Russian delegation, led by Medinsky, and 11 members of the Ukrainian team, headed by Umerov, while the journalists have departed.
