According to President Claudia Seynbaum, since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January, trafficking of fentanyl from Mexico to the United States has decreased by approximately 40 percent.
Trump cited this issue as a significant reason for his decision to impose tariffs on Mexico.
However, he later reversed this decision and suspended the tariffs for a month.
In response, Mexico’s president announced plans to strengthen border security with the deployment of around 10,000 troops.
The United States has also taken similar measures.
