The Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) are investigating a mysterious explosion that took place early Saturday morning outside a bank in Thessaloniki, resulting in the tragic death of a 39-year-old woman.
Authorities are focusing on determining the woman’s connection to the incident. Did she handle the explosive device? Was it given to her by someone else? Or was she merely a bystander? These questions are critical to the ongoing investigation.
It is known that the woman had a criminal history, primarily related to robberies and other offenses. One theory suggests she may have been at the bank to plant the explosive device, but further inquiry is needed to substantiate this assumption.

In addition to previous offenses, her background includes investigations for prostitution, drug-related charges, loan sharking, and violations of weapon laws. In 2021, she was arrested with another individual for possessing a Kalashnikov, along with drug possession and harboring a fugitive.
The explosion occurred shortly after 5:00 a.m. near the central bank branch, causing severe injuries to the woman, who lost several limbs. Despite immediate CPR and intubation, she was pronounced dead at Ippokrateio Hospital shortly after her arrival.
Residents reported that the blast was so intense that many initially thought it was an earthquake. One eyewitness recounted: “At around 5:10 a.m., a deafening noise erupted. I was terrified, and the entire neighborhood rushed out to their balconies in panic. I didn’t realize what had happened until I saw smoke billowing from a side street — but no flames — and then I understood.”
