Eurovision 2025: Ongoing Talks with Celine Dion Regarding Her Performance in Basel
As the first semi-final approaches, anticipation is building around Celine Dion’s potential participation in Eurovision 2025. Organizers have confirmed that discussions with her are still active.
During Monday’s rehearsal, a video featuring the Canadian singer was shown to the Swiss audience. The EBU clarified, “The situation has not changed; we are still in communication with Celine Dion.” However, Swiss newspaper Le Matin reports that this footage is from rehearsals and does not confirm her final participation. In the clip, the 57-year-old Quebec native expresses, “I wish I could be with you in Basel tonight. Switzerland will always have a special place in my heart. It is a country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something extraordinary. Winning Eurovision was a transformative experience, and I’m thankful to everyone who supported me.”

Le Matin highlights that her physical appearance at Eurovision will depend on her health, with a final decision potentially coming right at the last minute. However, leaks suggest a special tribute to Celine is planned for the first semi-final on May 13, honoring her iconic win for Switzerland in 1988. Additionally, during the grand final on May 17, a dedicated two-minute segment celebrating her will take place.
This year marks the 69th Eurovision, hosted in Basel, following NEMO’s victory in 2024 with “The Code,” which earned a total of 591 points (365 from the jury and 226 from the public), marking Switzerland’s first win in 36 years. The events are scheduled for May 13, 15, and 17, 2025.
